Another private commission where the client wanted a gift for her parents home. She wanted a proud stag standing in a highland landscape. Initially we decided on a head and shoulders shot and then I did some compositions of backdrops from which she chose this design. The idea was to not be too fussy with the background as the stag would almost be lost in the detail so the background gets increasingly less detailed as you get to the mountains in the distance. This painting used a lot of purple lake in painting the heather!
